Karakan take a number of student placements throughout the year including Bachelor of Social Work students from Griffith University and students from local TAFE institutes.
Student placements at Karakan are focused on providing a rich and supportive environment that will nurture personal and professional growth.
What can a social work student expect from Karakan?
Attending a practicum at Karakan is an experience unlike anything else. We work in close consultation with all students to develop individualised educational plans. Students work as a member of the management and coordination team within the organisation, gaining insight into the intricacies of running a busy, contemporary service.
Students can work directly with people that access the organisation, develop individual service plans, attend and participate in local collaborative meetings, work on individual projects to support the organisation and much, much more. Karakan has strong relationships with government and nongovernment organisations within the sector meaning students have the opportunity to spend some of their placement days visiting other services in the area.
Unlike other placements, students at Karakan are also provided with the chance to attend our innovative training and gain additional qualifications within mental health, specific to community work.
Students with a passion for community mental health
are encouraged to apply.
